Adventure Activities Locations Why Us? Safety Team Kshitij

Safety always comes first at GIO and we continue to have an excellent safety record. Our focus is on safety, followed by learning and fun. While we are proud of our record, we never let ourselves get complacent. As people who enjoy the great bounty that nature has bestowed upon us, team GIO takes its individual and collective responsibility very seriously. Our first commitment is to the physical, psychological, and emotional safety of every participant, and staff member, and ourselves. We leave no stone unturned to provide a safe experience and create an environment where people feel free to stretch their limits. Team GIO The lynchpin of any safety program is the people who guide the program. All the GIO team members guiding the program are certified professionals from Institutions like Nehru Institute of Mountaineering and have the best credentials in their field. They are individuals of the highest caliber who have proven themselves time and again.

We run a low 1:6 Staff to participant ratio. This means that participants always have access to and supervision by an adult leader. It also ensures individualized attention for the participants. Further, at every point at least 2 members from Team GIO go through all the safety aspects of the activities to ensure foolproof safety for all participants. All the Guides/instructors at team GIO are trained in First aid and CPR to address any eventuality. Every member of Team GIO carries basic safety kits & First aid boxes at all times. This includes all our camps & off site locations. While Trekking or Alpine Camping, the expedition leaders always carry a powerful, two-way radio with which emergency procedures may be initiated.

SAFETY CHECKS
We have three tiers of safety built into our programs:

Safety while indulging in outdoor activities
Safety at the camp
Safety while travelling

Each one of these aspects is addressed individually to put together a comprehensive safety program.

SAFETY IN OUTDOOR
ACTIVITIES

At the beginning of the program, all participants go through a briefing to familiarize them with basic safety guidelines and to ensure a safe and enjoyable stay at the camp. The issues addressed are the do’s and don’ts that include handling of bonfires, river / water safety guidelines if applicable, terrain and camp territory guidelines to guard against inadvertent errors.

The participants are given an extensive briefing and demonstration on how to use the equipment. Participants are not allowed to take in an activity until the instructor is satisfied that they have fully grasped the basics.

When in the outdoors, it is of utmost importance that one can trust ones gear. GIO uses state-of-theart equipment that is double-checked to ensure quality and reliability. We will be happy to provide detailed information regarding the safety equipment on request.

SAFETY AT THE
CAMP

All GIO camps are located keeping safety as the primary objective. The camps are away from the main roads, the threat of wildlife is non-existent and the participants are under constant supervision of the security staff in the camp.
Weatherproof Swiss Alpine Tents for a safe and comfortable stay at all times. Tents are made of thick canvas material, which does not catch fire easily.
There is a boundary wall made of ropes to prevent any outside intrusion.
Fire extinguishers and sand buckets are kept at various locations in the camp.
Doctor on call to attend to any emergency.

There is a camp vehicle and a driver present roundthe clock for any kind of emergency evacuation.

SAFETY WHILE
TRAVELLING

We design our programs in such a way that majority of the distance is covered by train. In the eventuality that this is not possible we use transporters who comply with the following criterion:

Company should have previous experience in dealing with groups of this nature.
One GIO escort will travel with each batch. We set the speed limits for driving in the plains at 60 kmph and in the mountains at 40 kmph.
We ensure that the vehicle has all documentation.
Bus/taxi should not be more than 6 years old.
Driver should possess a license for driving in the
hills and should have an experience of more than 6
years.
